UPCOMING ONLINE CLASS IN MARCH: Spiritual Friendship, Fellowship & Relationship in the Kabbalah: the Zohar, 16th Century Tzfat, & Hasidism
Please join us as we delve into the question of spiritual friendship & fellowship in Jewish mysticism. Among a variety of subtopics, we will explore such questions as: How did kabbalists understand and describe the intertwining of the interpersonal and the human-divine relationship, such that God is revealed in the face of one’s fellow human being? How might this shape our understanding of ethics, community, and love? What is the meaning and character of friendship, and why was this significant for Jewish mystics? How was the value of fellowship and community articulated by kabbalists, and what might this teach us? Texts will be studied in the Hebrew and Aramaic (in the case of the Zohar) original together with English translations provided.
